The Cedar Cottage

It was an honor to help give this charming 1950s Cape-style home a new life. To prepare it for holding the memories of a new family, after being owned by the same one for almost 75 years. Restoring as many of the original details as possible, while adding custom details like the arch on the fireplace as a nod to the arched doorways throughout the home, I strived to stay true to the original character of the home, while being mindful of the lifestyle and needs of a modern family today.

Changes to the floor plan included moving the kitchen to a more central and spacious location (where a second living room had been added on in the 80s), reworking all of the windows and back door in this space to incorporate more natural light and better scale and balance. These changes allowed space for adding a laundry room where the previous kitchen had been, and mudroom / drop zone at the side door. The makeshift laundry room had been located in a bedroom before this. A second full bathroom and walk-in closet were also added on the second floor - With a bathtub/shower tucked under an eve and a toilet niche with some added character - exposed brick. This classic home has the best of both worlds - modern conveniences and charming nostalgia of days gone by.
